DE - Making of "A Photoblogger's Philosophy – Steve Huff in Las Vegas"

Steve in "A Photoblogger's Philosophy"

Steve posing for "A Photoblogger's Philosophy"

By Thomas Ludwig
This ‘making of’ will start with some few personal notes. Back in 2012, when I started COSYSPEED I was already a fan of Steve’s blog for some years. I remember well that I liked his ‘real world’ approach in reviewing especially mirrorless gear. And I think he was the first one in the photo bloggospehere with such kind of reviews. Even if he uses a cool and easy language, his reviews are very precise when it comes to the major flaws and goodies. And he was somehow an inspiration for me with the development of the CAMSLINGER bags. It was my dream those days to read a review by Steve about the new bags and this dream came true in march 2014. I was so pleased that he did this review and that he liked the CAMSLINGERs. Then in October I met him and Debbie personally in Las Vegas, where my friend and filmmaker Jan Wagner shot the third release of “A Photoblogger’s Philosophy” – with Steve as protagonist!

EN – The Fanny Pack of Wyatt Earp

By Thomas Ludwig
Wyatt Earp is one of the most well-known gentlemen in history to wear a fanny pack – a belt pouch for those of you unfamiliar with the American term. His was a special fanny pack designed to hold his six shooter, and to give him quick, one-handed access to his gun. It would free his upper body from straps and belts and let him wear his working equipment very comfortably the whole day long.

But in the old days, no one would have called it a fanny pack, because neither Goa techno nor today's belt pouches had yet been invented. (Also, the term 'fanny' only acquired its modern meaning in North America in the early 20th century.) At the time, there was just one important thing: functionality! And of course a man who lived such a dangerous life as Wyatt Earp did had to look for the best tools available. Lateron it became fancy to wear a gun holster, which you can see in many Western movies.

Left: Gun holster | Middle: Wyatt Earp | Right: CAMSLINGER bag
When we developed the CAMSLINGER bag for mirrorless cameras, we picked up this concept and built a unique holster system. While the CAMSLINGER isn't exactly a fanny pack, it's a bit like Wyatt Earp's gun holster as it provides quick and easy acces to your working equipment, while letting you wear it comfortably on your body. It's a bag for mirrorless cameras that provides all the comfort and functionality you need for your exciting life as a mirrorless hero – even if it's not as dangerous as the life of Wyatt Earp.

EN - Making of "A Photoblogger's Philosophy – Thomas Leuthard in Frankfurt"

Jan capturing Thomas "at work"

By Thomas Ludwig
Some months ago I had the pleasure to meet well known street photographer Thomas Leuthard from Switzerland. He is a very kind and open guy and I asked him spontaneously if he could imagine to take part on our video series about photoblogger's. We started this series with super nice Chris Gampat from The Phoblographer in November. Thomas agreed and we met up in Frankfurt in April.

First we made an Interview with him, which was extremely interesting. Jan Wagner, director and cameraman asked many questions and later on it was difficult to find the few words that would fit in a two minute clip. The last question of Jans interview was: "What is more important, truth or beauty?" – Maybe we'll release the full interview one day and you can hear the answer from Thomas himself :-)

DE - Making of "A Photoblogger's Philosophy – Thomas Leuthard in Frankfurt"

EN - Making of "The Mirrorless Hero - Shootout with the past"

Jan and Birgit shooting with a mirroless camera

By Thomas Ludwig
Back in August 2013 we were planning to shoot a promo video for our unique CAMSLINGER bags for mirrorless cameras. One of the major benefits of the bags is the fast and one-handed access to your mirrorless cam. So the idea for the video was to tell a story about a shootout between a mirrorless camera guy with a CAMSLINGER and a DSLR guy with a messenger style bag. I was so lucky to find widely experienced director Jan Wagner and camerawoman Birgit Möller for this job.

EN – A photo walk with Thomas Leuthard

The master at work
By Thomas Ludwig
On the first weekend of April I had the chance to meet up with Thomas Leuthard, well known street photographer from Switzerland. Back in February we had a first contact while I was eMailing him to present the Camslingers. Sometimes one word leads to another and so we met up in Zurich for talking about street photography and to have a photo walk with other photo nerds.

EN - A little hack to make size adjustment easier

During the size adjustment of the Camslinger it may happen that the velcro sticks together when you did not want it to. To prevent this there is a little trick. All you need is a pair of scissors, a large sheet of paper (ysterdays newspaper for example) and the camera you want to adjust the Camslinger to.

1: A 30 cm long (for the Camslinger 160 a 45cm long) and 7 cm wide strip of the newspaper cut.

2: Open the Velcro fasteners and place the camera on the inner part.

3: Place the paper strip around the Velcro on the inner part and close the Camslinger again.

4: Press the inner and outer shell together and pull out the paper.

5: Take the camera out, press inner Velcro closures and the Camslinger is adjusted to your cam.

The laurels for this go to CJ from Photoscala where the trick is described in the review of the Camslinger bags.

Have fun

EN - Always ready – The CAMSLINGER Concept

By Thomas Ludwig
To put your mirrorless camera and lenses in a bag is one thing. To use a CAMSLINGER means to use a camera bag in the sense of a concept and it'll give a fresh touch to the way you are using your photo gear. This post will give you an idea about the new possibilities of the concept behind CAMSLINGER camera bags.

Free upper body and comfortable wearing
When wearing a CAMSLINGER your upper body is free just as if you wouldn't wear a cam bag at all. In this way you can take along your cam with the feeling of more freedom as if you would have a backpack or a messenger style bag. Your gear is also very comfortable to wear for many hours and it is protected. The cam just doesn't disturb you anymore while carrying around.

Fast ,one handed access
This is a feature not to be underestimated. With a CAMSLINGER you can quickly grab your cam with one hand. And if you don't use a lens cap - what is no problem if you have a UV filter on your lens - you can also aim and shoot a photo with one hand. Have your little kid on the left arm and want to make a selfie? Just do it! Doing outdoor sports like biking or climbing? Just do a one handed shot if you like to. Out for street shooting and have a fresh coffee in your hand while the photo of your lifetime comes along? Just grab your cam out of your CAMSLINGER, have your coffee and take your photo. When not in use, the cam is protected in its pouch. You can also easily turn the bag on your back and no one would ever see that you are wearing a cam.

GER - Immer bereit – Das CAMSLINGER-Konzept

EN - How to wear a CAMSLINGER

By Thomas Ludwig
CAMSLINGER bags can give you many benefits like fast, one handed access, a comfortable way to carry your mirrorless system and to have your cam and lenses protected. But how should you wear it?

Left: That's to high | Right: That's cool
Well here's our suggestion: Wear it like a western hero wears his gun in his holster. Don't fix the belt of your CAMSLINGER to high (around your waist). Fix it casually around your hip. In this way you don't have to move your arm to get access to your cam and lenses because your hand is on the same level as the bag and the buckle.

Just think you're John W. walking around with a mirrorless camera on your hip.

GER - Wie trägt man eine CAMSLINGER?

Von Thomas Ludwig
CAMSLINGER Taschen bieten viele Vorteile.

EN - The making of "A Photoblogger's Philosophy - Chris Gampat in Berlin"

By Thomas Ludwig
Back in November 2013 I had the pleasure to welcome Chris Gampat, Editor in Chief and founder of the blog "The Phoblographer" in Berlin. The New York based blog has many hundred thousand visitors each month and me myself I am a long time reader and like it very much. It's a cool mixture of gear review, photo news and other stuff all around photography. Chris came across the Atlantic ocean right from New York to talk about his philosophy and to be the center of our first video in the series "A Photoblogger's Philosophy".
Jan and Chris at the set. The video was made
entirely with a NEX 7

Chris is a super nice guy and we met up for a first time in September 2013 when I was in New York. I showed him one of the first of our Camslinger prototypes and some days later I asked him spontaneously if he would come to Berlin for this video project about photoblogger's. He said immediately yes and I was amazed.

His flight came via Brussels and he stuck there for the whole day because the belgian pilots were on strike. Jan Wagner, director/camera guy, and me were a little stressed, as we had just about two days for this project. And the poor Chris wasn't that lucky too. He told me that he gave some camera and photo instructions to other waiting passengers. So at least these guys had profound profits while waiting. The idea of the video was, that Chris should walk through the streets of Berlin, take some images and talk about his philosophy. But it wasn't that easy, because his luggage was not in the plane and so we had to go first into a H&M store to buy some clothes for him.
What the heck is a Simson Schwalbe Motobike?!

And also the major part of his gear was in that luggage. So he was using my OM-D when we were turning the first day. His bags came in the evening and for the second day he used his X-Pro 1. Man that was a heart shaking start but nevertheless we had a lot of fun.

Then Jan made an interview with Chris. That was in Jan's kitchen in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg and it was great and very inspiring to listen to Chris.

Here is the link to The Phoblographer. All images of this making of were made with a LUMIX G6.

GER - The making of "A Photoblogger's Philosophy - Chris Gampat in Berlin"

Von Thomas Ludwig
Im November 2013 hatte ich das Vergnügen Chris Gampat, Gründer und Chefredakteur des Blogs "The Phoblographer" in Berlin zu begrüßen. The Phoblographer hat mehrere hunderttausend Leser jeden Monat.

Simson Schwalbe what?!

ENG - A city stroll with the Camslinger 105

By Gernot Orgler
If you are walking around the city you can see a lot happen around you. And while you might just put your wallet away and enjoy some strawberry ice cream, you see the photo you were waiting for all day. But as quick as the opportunity arises , so fast she will be over – because one has only one free hand.

The Camslinger 105 provides quick , one-handed access to your compact system camera. The camera bag hangs on hand at your hip , like a holster. And almost as fast as a Colt from the holster you can also get the camera out of the bag. It fits rigth inside it and slides in and out easily thanks to the internal padding. So the camera is ready to use in the blink of an eye.

Due to the small dimensions of the bag it is as discreet as the Compact System Cameras itself. It's  also possible to easily move the Camslinger bag forwards and backwards around your hip which increases the comfort and freedom of movement. In the beer garden you can sit down to drink, for example, a small water without putting the bag aside. It is possible to pull of a short sprint to change the point of view. You can always be ready to use your camera in the crowded subway, during rummaging at the flea market or at the BBQ at the river. In all of these cases the bag does not disturb you and hangs almost unnoticed on the belt.

In addition to that the fastening gives me a sense of security. The combination of the safety button and rubber band is amazingly practical and fast. The bag can be perfectly opened and closed from the top.

All in all, the Camslinger 105 is the ideal companion for photo walks around the city with very little equipment for me. It gives me the feeling of being always ready for the next photographic challenge.

Superman always needed a phone booth nearby to be ready for his heroic deeds. With the Camslinger the next heroic feat is just a 125stel seconds away.

THE WORLD BELONGS TO MIRRORLESS HEROES
